Anne de Silva   

Anne is originally from Te Aroha but moved to Matamata 30 years ago.

She has been drawing, painting and doing craft work all her life and has a mural “ Matamata Yesterday and Today” on the wall opposite the post office  as well as the sculptures   : “Gandalf`s Chair”  and the large sculpture “Leaping Ahead” which she designed- are on display in Matamata main street.

Her work includes book illustrations,book covers ,card designs, murals and a variety of commercial work and many commissions - portraits, animals, houses and landscapes etc.

These days as well as some teaching, she keeps busy with commissions and voluntary art work and projects at the Matamata Tower Museum, helping with displays and models. She is at present working on two murals for the outside wall of the Madill shed.

A trained art teacher, she has run her own Art School and Gallery for twenty three years.

Her speciality is portraiture and figures and has won awards overseas as well as New Zealand.

Her paintings are in acrylic, watercolours and oils and a variety of mixed media.

Anne exhibits her work regularly and has had solo exhibitions in NZ and overseas.
