Gliding

Up-drafts from the Kaimai Ranges create ideal conditions for gliding, making Matamata a world-renowned gliding site. Scenic flights are available by arrangement.

Hobbiton Movie Set Tour

Guided daily tours are available ex Matamata, The Shires Rest Cafe and Rotorua to the original Hobbiton Movie Set from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The set is how you will be seeing it in the new films, The Hobbit. Tours depart from the Matamata i-SITE or from The Shire.

Kaimai Cheese Cafe

A new ‘top shelf’ specialty cheese producer making genuinely ‘natural’ cheeses. The Kaimai building is a replica of an old historic 1920’s Butter Factory. Relax and enjoy a lovely meal or snack, watch the cheese making process, then sample and purchase some of our sensational cheese or gourmet items.

Middle Earth Flying School
